All around us we see signs of a shaking in our lives. Evidence abounds economically that we are going to be facing very hard times in the near future. Canada’s economy is not only floundering, but threatening to sputter to a near halt. Record government and household debt is greater than that of Greece ten years ago. The signs are pointing the way to another great depression and we as a society are ill equipped to handle such losses.
The fact is that this future reality will affect us all. Where will we go? What will we do?
As Christians this is a time to seek God. A time to watch the ‘signs of the times.’ A time to prepare and a time to stand firm in our faith. It is when the shaking happens that we can turn to God, our Father, Jesus our Redeemer and Holy Spirit our Comforter.
God is our refuges and strength
an ever present help in times of trouble.
This is also a time for generosity. A time to shine in our care and compassion for others. A time for giving. A time for reaching out to those losing their jobs, their income, their livelihoods, their hope. It’s a time to make a difference and a time to see revival, as many come back to their ‘first love.’
Tough times can become times of great change, courage and kindness. These times can also become times of bitterness, hatred, and hopelessness. These times can be an opportunity to us who Jesus followers to reach out to a lost and hurting world being shaken to it’s core.
